Reorganize Department
Mission Statement –
The mission of the Energy Department is to ensure America’s security and prosperity by addressing its energy, environmental and nuclear challenges through transformative science and technology solutions.
Discussion –
This Department should probably be dissolved and its agencies reassigned to other Departments better suited to manage the responsibilities. For instance, managing naval reactors and weapons activities carried out by the National Nuclear Security Administration should probably be part of the Department of Defense, and environmental functions might be better carried out by the Environmental Protection Agency. Furthermore, it is not clear why the Federal Government is in the power generating business, so the Power Marketing Administration could be spun off as an independent agency or even privatized.
